Peter Burns
Board
During his professional career, Mr. Burns served on a number of corporate and not-for-profit boards, including the Board of Directors of Barclays Bank Delaware (the US credit card issuing bank of Barclays Plc) and chair of its audit committee. Until its sale to First Data Corporation in 2017 he was also a Director and chair of the audit committee at CardConnect Corp, a publicly traded fin tech company processing merchant payment card transaction.. In the not for profit arena he served for ten years as a board member of Clarifi, a regional financial counseling agency serving the needs of low to moderate-income consumers and most recently a member of the board of Give Something Back. From 2009 until the company was sold to Global Payments Inc in 2016 he was the Senior Payments Advisor at Heartland Payment Systems Inc, working on a part time basis with the company CEO on industry policy issues and internal strategy development. From 2000 to 2009 he served as Vice President and founding Director of the Payment Cards Center of the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia. He was responsible for the establishment of the Center and its development as a recognized source of expertise and policy insight on issues related to consumer credit and payments. After leaving the Bank, he was a member of the Center’s Industry Advisory Council for another 9 years. From 1996 to 2000 he was managing director of the Financial Institutions Center at the University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School. The Center was founded with a grant from the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation with the goal of providing relevant academic research in partnership with the financial services industry. Mr. Burns has an extensive background in the financial services industry, having held a number of senior management positions during a 25-year career with CoreStates Financial Corporation and its predecessor, The Philadelphia National Bank. Mr. Burns received an AB degree from Lehigh University and an MBA in Finance from the University of Chicago's Booth School of Business.
